Studio 1

The Soul of the House. (Common to the whole house)

This home was built slowly, by hand, over seven years. I’ve cradled every room in 50cm Taipa (rammed earth) walls, finished with natural lime that lets the building breathe. It’s a space that stays naturally fresh and healthy, free from dampness and mold. I’ve kept the edges soft—you won’t find many sharp angles here—allowing the energy to flow in an organic way.

Studio 1: The Golden Corner

Space to breathe, light to grow.

Studio 1 is the most spacious corner of the house, yet it’s designed to feel like a warm embrace. Because it faces true South, it’s the first to welcome the morning sun, keeping the earth walls glowing and warm throughout the day.

  • Height & Air: The ceilings are high and generous, giving you plenty of “headspace” to think and dream. Even up on the mezzanine, you can stand tall and move comfortably.
  • A Quiet Soak: This is the only studio with its own bathtub—a little private ritual spot to relax yourself.

The Feeling: It’s a place that manages to feel both vast and tucked-away. It’s for someone who loves the sun and appreciates having a bit of extra room to move without losing that “nest” feeling.

Studio 3: The Garden Flow

A sense of balance and breathing room.

Studio 3 offers a unique sense of structure within the house. As the only studio with a dedicated separate bedroom instead of a mezzanine, it provides a grounded, lateral flow that feels both solid and spacious.

  • Dual Perspectives: This space breathes between two worlds. The kitchen and living area face North, offering a steady, soft light, while the bedroom opens toward the South and the garden—letting you wake up to the sun and the view of the greenery.

  • The Stone Heart: A striking, hand-built stone wall stands at the center, separating the kitchen from the bathroom. It’s a textured reminder of the raw, natural materials I’ve used throughout the project.

  • Separation & Scale: With its distinct rooms and high ceilings, this studio feels particularly expansive. It’s a space that allows you to move freely between resting, cooking, and living, all while held by the quiet strength of the earth walls.

  • The Feeling: It is a place of balance. It’s perfect for someone who values the distinction between “day” and “night” spaces and wants to feel a direct connection to the garden’s edge.

Kitchen Living room: 15 sq. m.

Studio 4

The Soul of the House. (Common to the whole house)

This home was built slowly, by hand, over seven years. I’ve cradled every room in 50cm Taipa (rammed earth) walls, finished with natural lime that lets the building breathe. It’s a space that stays naturally fresh and healthy, free from dampness and mold. I’ve kept the edges soft—you won’t find many sharp angles here—allowing the energy to flow in an organic way.

Studio 4: The Cocoon of Focus

Small in scale, big in soul.

Studio 4 is the most intimate space in the house, designed for those who find beauty in simplicity and a perfect fit. While it is the smallest of the studios, it has been crafted to ensure your daily life feels effortless and tucked-away.

  • The Studio of Focus: Small spaces are often the best for writers, creators, or anyone looking to feel “centered.” Without the distraction of excess square footage, this room invites a clear mind and deep concentration.

  • The Cocoon: There is a unique sense of safety here. Being wrapped in the 50cm thick earth walls in a more compact space creates a “nest” feeling that is incredibly grounding. It holds its warmth beautifully, acting as a true sanctuary.

  • Living in Flow: To keep the space open and airy, I’ve equipped it with a folding table that adapts to you. It’s a desk when you’re inspired, a dining table when you’re hungry, and disappears when you want more room to breathe.

  • Afternoon Glow: Facing Northeast, this studio stays cool and steady throughout the morning, then welcomes the soft, golden light of the late afternoon—the perfect atmosphere for winding down your day.

  • The Feeling: It’s a “mindful” space that invites you to live with only what you need. It proves that you don’t need a lot of space to have a lot of peace.

Size (Living net spaces):

Kitchen Living room: 15 sq. m.

Mezzanine: 8 sq. m.

Bathroom: 8 sq. m.

Total: 31 sq. m.

Rental:

Low season: September to June

The House Garden

The Garden: Our Shared Space

Where the house breathes.

The house opens up into a large shared garden, a place designed for rest and connection. It is a wide, peaceful space that can be enjoyed at any moment of the day.

  • Orange and Olive Trees: The garden is home to orange and olive trees that provide shade and a sense of belonging to the land. In the spring, when the orange trees are in bloom, the beautiful scent of the blossoms fills the air, creating a truly unique and healing atmosphere.

  • The Rhythm of the Day: In the morning, it is a sunny and gentle spot, ideal for starting the day with calm. As the afternoon fades, the vibe becomes more intimate—a place to simply listen to the birds and the sound of the crickets.

  • Space to Expand: It is a generous area where there is always room to find a quiet corner for reading or to share a conversation in the fresh air.

  • The Feeling: You can breathe a deep sense of tranquility here. It is the open companion to the solid earth walls of the studios; a place to connect with the outdoors and feel part of the surroundings.

The Land

The Land:

The house is the heart of this project, nestled within 2 hectares of land offering endless possibilities. Set among rolling hills and right next to a river, the landscape stays lush and green even in summer thanks to the surrounding orange groves. It is a place of deep peace, where the slope of the hills meets the vastness of the stars at night, and evenings are filled with the gentle sounds of crickets and frogs.

The land is naturally divided into various terraces, each creating a unique space with its own distinct feeling. You’ll find charming details like the original old wood oven and a small natural spring, with a swimming pond currently under construction to offer a refreshing dip during the warm Algarve summers.

The property is already equipped with thoughtful infrastructure to support community life and events, including electricity throughout the land, an outdoor kitchen and shower, a compost toilet, and areas for bungalow tents and camping.

While the land feels like a private sanctuary, it is strategically located just far enough from the coastal bustle to remain spoiled and serene. Within a 20-minute drive, you can immerse yourself in a world of variety: the famous cliffs and caves of the south coast beaches, the historic charm of Silves and Monchique, or the modern conveniences of Portimão. It is truly the best of both worlds—peaceful seclusion with everything you need just moments away.
